Benny is a 5 year old male American Pit Bull Terrier.  He was picked up as a stray wandering in Elk Grove.  Upon being brought to the animal hospital, it was discovered he was microchipped, but after reaching out to his owner, it was decided that he would not return for Benny and Benny came to HWAM. It was also discovered that Benny was heartworm positive, and he is currently being treated through the rescue. This treatment will continue with the rescue until a negative result.

 

Benny is an all around happy, wiggle butt of a guy!  He will cover you in kisses, when allowed and let you know you are his best friend. He loves to go on long walks and explore the outdoors any chance he can get.  He is also happy hanging out on the couch, or in your lap, snuggling and enjoying quiet time. Car ride you say?  Benny will be the best co-pilot you've ever had, and does not mind a little carpool karaoke!  Benny does not care where he is, as long as he is with you! He does want to "hug" everyone to show how happy he is and correcting this behavior should continue to be worked on. 

 

Benny currently has three foster siblings, all of whom are 20 lbs and under, and while he is beyond amazing with them, any future fur siblings should be of his size and energy so he can play with them like the 60 lb dog he is. He has met several neighborhood big dogs, and just wants to play and run with them.   He is great with kids, however because Benny sometimes doesn't realize his own size, older children would be best.  He has not been exposed to cats. Benny does great on a leash and is generally non reactive and easily redirected.  Benny does not enjoy the crate when closed, but will go in and take a nap and lounge around inside with the door open.
